NAU AAPG/NAPE'S PURPOSE |
The purposes of this Association is to advance the science of geology, especially as it relates to petroleum, natural gas, other subsurface fluids, and mineral resources; to promote the technology of exploring for, finding, and producing these materials in an economically and environmentally sound manner; to foster the spirit of scientific research throughout its membership; to disseminate information relating to the geology and the associated technology of petroleum, natural gas, other subsurface fluids, and mineral resources; to inspire and maintain a high standard of professional conduct on the part of its members; to provide the public with means to recognize adequately trained and professionally responsible geologists; and to advance the professional well-being of its members. |

MEMBERSHIP STRENGTH
We currently have a membership strength of over 250 members, and in the past six months, under the current executive, we have facilitated the registration of about 70 students for AAPG and/or NAPE membership
NEWS
- 1. Our faculty sponsor, Prof. Okechukwu L., Anike was recently elevated to a full Professor, he had been a reader in the Department of Geological Sciences for some time. We say congrats!!!
- 2. 25 of our students took part in the NAPE mini conference that held in the University of Calabar, from May 15th - 18th, 2008. Our students had a nice time, and were commended for their great conduct. Also two of our lecturers: Dr. A. G. Onwuemesi (Head of Department), and Mr. I. I. Obiadi were a part of the conference.
- 3. One of our student, Onyido Chibuzor (incidentally our president), presented a paper titled "Velocity - Permeability Relations within Hydraulic Units in the Niger- Delta" during the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) mini- conference in the University of Calabar, Nigeria. The paper which was co-authored with some of his lecturers was adjudged the 3rd best paper out of over 40 paper presentations in the conference.
- 4. Three (3) of our students showed their dexterity during the conference, as they partook in the social events/dance, and won the best male, best female, and first runner up male prizes
